THE VINEYARDS

EL BARRANCO
This is a bush-trained vine planted in 1940 in San Adrian and it’s the oldest Graciano vineyard in the world. It has a surface of 6 hectares located on a 400m hill next to the Ega River and facing the South. The soil is poor, sandy, rounded and with pebbles. The roots of the vines are very deep. The climate is continental with a notorious Mediterranean influence, perfect for long circle varieties such as Graciano. It requires a lot of care. This special vineyard produces our Voche Seleccion Graciano.

LOS MOLINOS is another Graciano vineyard we use for our Voche Crianza. This is a seven hectares parcel of clay-lime and compacted soil located 450m high and is more than 20 years old. The roots need to work a lot in order to drill such a compacted soil. The soil is very poor and the growing of the vegetation very limited. This Graciano is very mature but fresh at the same time.

JOSÉ LEÓN is the name of the vineyard our Tempranillo comes from. It is 25 years old and it has a surface of 5 hectares located at 380 meters high. The soil is sandy and calcareous, being the influence of the white sand that predominates.
This vineyard was planted on a hill that faces South. The grape that we obtain is very mature, it comes from quite small bunches that concentrate colorful fruits with tannins.

LA LADERA is the parcel our Viura grape comes from, it is used in the coupage of our Voché white oak fermented. This vineyard is located in an area that is the sign of identity of the oldest white Rioja we own, which is more than 50 years old. This bush-trained vine is planted in rocky, sandy and deep soil that faces the South, receiving day light throughout the whole day. The roots are very deep and the trimming of the leaves is hand made. This parcel’s production is very limited so its grapes contain very mature tannins that are unmistakable in the palate.

“The selection of the grapes and vineyards has been made by Victor Fernandez de Manzanos himself. We seek for the selection of selections.”
VINIFICATION

The harvest is done at dawn so we can keep the full freshness of the grape. The grapes are hand-picked in boxes of 12kg. The harvest is only done by our expert staff who have worked throughout the whole year with us so they know very well all the requirements and characteristics of such a privileged selection.

We select bunches vine by vine at the vineyard itself. Each bunch has to weigh between 200 and 230 grams so we only collect around 1,6/kg per vine. They all have to be selected by one our qualified staff.

Voché Harvest
Voché Fermentation

With regard to fermentation, we do smooth pumping-ups and cap breaking throughout the whole process for Voché Selección Graciano.
Part of the grapes are also fermented in open 500 litres French oak barrels. For Voché Crianza, the fermentation is also done in stainless steel deposit with daily pumping-ups. Barrel or concrete is used depending on the year and the what type of wine is being created.

The ageing is done in new and second year French oak barrels. For Graciano, we introduce Romanian barrels since, after several years working with it, we have found out that this type of oak gives a very fine touch that adds minerals to the wine.
Refinement in bottle before leaving the winery.
Racked two times per year without removing the lees so the wine gets more volume, unctuousness smoothness.
